14-man squad to travel to Northants

Elite Performance Director Andrew McDonald said that the nature of Friday night’s NatWest T20 Blast defeat to Lancashire Lightning has made it easy for Leicestershire Foxes to move on to their Royal London One-Day Cup game at Northants Steelbacks tomorrow.

County came out on the wrong end of the result in a match where 19 overs were lost to rain, the toss ultimately proving a big factor as the Lightning were set a revised seven-over target after Duckworth-Lewis calculations.

The team is not dwelling on what happened because the flip of the coin and the elements are not something within their control. Leicestershire has therefore quickly put the result behind them and will head down the M1 in good spirits.

"We know how it is when the game gets shortened because of Duckworth-Lewis in T20,” said McDonald. “It's a big toss when there's weather around so we don't feel hard done by. It's just the harsh reality and Lancashire outplayed us within the rules and regulations.

"Jos Buttler is world-class and Jordan Clark did a fantastic job so we're not going to read too much into this because we're only five games in and there's nine left.

“One more win gets us back in there and momentum is key in T20 - if you hit it at the right time you've got to capitalise.

“We’re now heading to Northants and we’re determined to get off the mark in 50-over cricket, so we move on and are fully focused on the next challenge.”

There are now two Royal London One-Day Cup matches in a row for the Foxes at Northants (11am start) and Worcestershire (Wednesday) before the Pears head to the Fischer County Ground for a NatWest T20 Blast fixture on Friday night.

The squad sees three adjustments from the one that was on duty at Edgbaston last Tuesday. Niall O’Brien is injured so Cameron Delport, originally signed for NatWest T20 Blast, is now also going to play in the Royal London One-Day Cup and has been named in the squad.

There are also places in the 14 for Aadil Ali and Ned Eckersley after impressive performances in the Second XI this week. The duo come into the squad for Tom Wells and James Sykes.

Squad: Pettini (capt), Dexter, Robson, Horton, K O’Brien, Cosgrove, Delport, Eckersley, Hill, Ali, Raine, Taylor, McKay, Naik.
