Leicestershire CCC held its Annual General Meeting in the Charles Palmer Suite at the Fischer County Ground yesterday evening.
At the AGM, Mr David Wilson CBE was re-appointed as President, Mr Robin Matthews was re-elected to the Board of Directors, and Mr Roy Bent and Mr Stephen Kind were elected to the Board of Directors.
Club President David Wilson CBE opened the meeting and handed over to Chairman Paul Haywood, who explained the situation regarding the SGM, which had been called to bring in new provisions for the election of Directors and which had been adjourned.
There will be two consultation meetings for Members this summer, on Thursday, June 21 at 7pm and Monday, August 20 at 7pm following the respective day’s play against Middlesex and Kent. The SGM is then planned to be reconvened for the end of August or the beginning of September.
Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE explained that the return of Head Coach Paul Nixon has created a positive vibe for the whole club including players, coaches, staff and Members. Wasim said that the time was right to bring Paul back and that he has a high-class coaching team with Matt Mason and Tom Smith joining Paul and John Sadler.
Wasim said that the club accepts that performances in red ball cricket were not good enough in 2017 but the team did reach the quarter-finals of T20, which was progress from previous years. He said that the players are hungry to succeed and that there will be competition for places this season.
He added that the commercial performance at the club has been excellent, and that the club has successfully reduced costs in key areas. Wasim thanked everyone at the club, including Members, for their support and commitment in recent seasons.
Finance Manager Steve Urwin discussed the club’s annual accounts for the year to 30 September 2017, which showed a net profit for the third successive year and an EBITDA that improved by 51%.
The meeting concluded with a video message from Head Coach Paul Nixon, who was unable to attend the AGM given he is on the club’s pre-season tour in Spain. Paul said that he is delighted to be back at Leicestershire CCC, thanked everyone for their messages of support, and explained the hard yards put in this winter have ensured the squad is in a good place as it enters the new season.
Several questions were asked by Members throughout the meeting, which closed shortly before 8pm. The club would like to thank Members for attending and look forward to welcoming everybody back to the Fischer County Ground for the 2018 season.
