2018 League round-up 16

The title race in the Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League continues to be close as Leicester Ivanhoe, Lutterworth and Kibworth all won at the weekend.

Ivanhoe put in a comprehensive performance against Uppingham. They bowled the hosts out for just 98 as Mitchell Carey took four wickets and Abdul Malik three. Nick Green, who recently scored a century for Leicestershire Academy, top-scored for Uppingham with 33.

Leicestershire CCC’s Sam Evans opened the batting with Joe Kendall and the pair got the score to 97 before the later fell for 54. Evans finished unbeaten on 35 as Ivanhoe chased their total inside ten overs.

Lutterworth also won comfortably as they beat Syston by 60 runs. Craig Wilson top-scored for Lutterworth with 67 and Lewis Hill made 36 as Lutterworth set Syston 197 to win. Vibhu Yadav was in fine form for Syston taking four for 41 from his 10 overs.

Syston lost two early wickets but Charlie Royle and Charles Wootton steadied the ship making 41 and 44 respectively. However, they both fell and Syston succumbed to 134 all out. The ever-reliable Darren Cader took three wickets for Lutterworth and Alec Hill, Nathan Welham and Wesley Marshall all took two.

Kibworth edged out Kegworth in a thriller as they chased their target of 141 with eight wickets down.

Langtons ensured there was another tough day for Market Harborough as they bowled Harborough out for 80 and then chased it for the loss of just two wickets.

Only Randell Ramdeen made double figures with 18, while M Sheth took 5-34 and Zubar Patel 4-18. Sarfraz Boriyhwala guided his side to victory with 31* and wicket-keeper Saeed Manga was 30 not out at the end.

Barrow won a close game against Loughborough Town. Barrow made 199 before being bowled out, Heath Pedrola top-scoring with 55 while Sardeep Salgotra made a useful 48.

George Kenny was the pick of the Loughborough Town bowlers as he took three for 43 – but his side were in trouble at 63 for four.

Stuart Fielding kept them in the game with 64, however, he was the ninth wicket to fall and shortly after Loughborough were bowled out for 182. Barrow won by 17 runs as Salgotra and Umar Afzal each took three wickets.

Harry Bates was in fine form with the ball for Sileby, picking up four for 15 as they bowled Barkby out for 125, before Sileby chased their total six wickets down. Steve Flowers top-scored for Barkby with 33, but Bates was supported by former Fox Jigar Naik and Kieran Chance who each took three-fors.

The Sileby chase was anything but smooth, losing three wickets early on, but Liam Kinch hit 41 and Mitchell Buck 35 not out to see Sileby over the line.
