It was a special day for Leicestershire Academy member Jack Nightingale as he hit his first Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League hundred for Barrow Town in their victory against Market Harborough.
Nightingale opened the batting as his side lost the toss and were put into bat and he made 115 from 112 balls, hitting 17 boundaries and one maximum. Nightingale was supported by Heath Pedrola who scored 61 as Barrow finished up on 292 for 8 from their 50 overs.
At 102-5 Harborough were always struggling and they ended up being bowled out for 151. Academy member Don Butchart made 30 and Alex Fall 31. Umar Afzal starred with the ball for Barrow, taking 4 for 30 from 10 overs.
Another Academy batsman also registered his first century of the season, Ashish Trusz hitting 130 for Loughborough Town as they were bowled out for 261 against Sileby. Trusz innings came from just 116 balls, as he hit 17 boundaries and 3 maximums.
The next top score for Loughborough came from Academy player Nat Bowley who made 32. Aaron Smith was Sileby’s best bowler taking 4-39 from 9.1 overs.
Sileby slipped to 36-4 and although Brady Glennon and Mitchell Buck added 64 for the fifth wicket they were bowled out for 190. Nil Patel picked up 4-30 and George Kenny and Kaz Saddington both took two wickets apiece. Glennon finished up on 60 but his side were bowled out for 190 as Loughborough won by 71 runs.
Leicester Ivanhoe secured their first win of the season as they beat Barkby by five wickets. Barkby won the toss and elected to bat, however at 106-7 things hadn’t quite gone to plan. Academy bowler Alex Evans took 5-35 removing the Barkby middle order and he was backed up by Sub-Academy bowler James Graham who took 3-14 from seven overs.
Some late order hitting from Jamie Drake 31 and Cameron Sharp boosted Barkby to 174 before they were bowled out in the 46th over.
Ivanhoe had to rely on a new-look top order as both Sam Evans and Harry Swindells were with Leicestershire CCC this weekend. Opener Joe Kendall started positively hitting 43 from 52 balls including eight boundaries but a little wobble saw Ivanhoe fall to 78 for 4. Mitch Carey saved the day with an unbeaten 58, hitting five boundaries and four maximums and Abdul Malik was unbeaten on 16 at the end.
Lutterworth’s solid start to the season continued as they beat Langtons. Langtons made 163 batting first Raag Kapur top scoring with 57 and Captain Sarfaraj Patel making 44. Wesley Marshall took 4-28 from 10 overs and Karl Smith 3-24.
An early stutter saw Lutterworth lose both openers for 1 and 2 before Chay Kalym (38) and Craig Wilson (37) steadied the ship. At the end Alec Sim (38*) and Smith (20*) guided their side to a comfortable five-wicket victory.
Syston Town produced an emphatic performance to beat Kibworth. Kibworth batted first and made 203-6 from 50 overs. Matt Craven top-scored with 62, with Sundeep Patel scoring 36. In reply Syston got home with seven wickets to spare as Ram Ghuman scored 65 not out, opener Ketan Dudharejia making 36 and Charles Wootton 35.
Kegworth were also in emphatic form as they chased down their total set by Uppingham Town comfortably. Sam Hodson top-scored for Uppingham with 75 as his side made 194 from 47 overs before being bowled out. Morgan Crimp took three wickets for Kegworth.
In reply, Adam Williams set the base with 72 before Academy member James Dickinson and George Scottorn saw their side to victory with 41 and 39 not out respectively.
