2019 AGM

Leicestershire CCC held its Annual General Meeting in the Charles Palmer Suite at the Fischer County Ground yesterday evening.

At the AGM, former Leicestershire CCC player and coach Jack Birkenshaw MBE was appointed as the new Club President, with David Wilson OBE CL named as an Honorary Life Patron after 14 dedicated years in the role of President.

During that time, David Wilson made a huge contribution to the Leicestershire Young Cricketers Education Trust (LYCET), now the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Foundation (LRCF), which has allowed a number of young cricketers to experience some unique development opportunities.

Jack Birkenshaw had a distinguished playing and coaching career. His first-class career record with the Foxes was exceptional: 11,040 runs with four centuries as a left-handed batsman, and 908 wickets through deceptive slow bowling.

He oversaw one of the most successful periods in the Club’s history, helping to steer a team including current Head Coach Paul Nixon to the County Championship title wins of 1996 and 1998 with astute leadership.

It was Paul Haywood’s final AGM as Chairman after being involved in the management of the club for more than 30 years. He opened the meeting and went on to thank David Wilson for his huge contribution to the club over the years.

Mehmooda Duke MBE, Chris Tinbergen and Sean Jarvis were elected as Nominated Directors after their appointments were ratified by Members. Mehmooda Duke and Chris Tinbergen will serve for a three-year period, with Sean Jarvis appointed for an initial one-year term.

Andrew York, who was standing down from the Board of Directors alongside Paul Haywood and John Allen, was elected as an Honorary Vice-President alongside John Freer.

Finance Director Steve Kind and Finance Manager Steve Urwin answered the Members’ questions on the Club’s annual accounts for the year to 30 September 2018.

Head Coach Paul Nixon and Club Captain Paul Horton were also in attendance to answer questions from Members.

The new Chairman of Leicestershire CCC will be elected at the first Board Meeting held after the Annual General Meeting, and will be announced on the LCCC website.

The meeting closed shortly after 8pm.

Leicestershire CCC would like to take this opportunity to thank David Wilson CBE OL, Paul Haywood and Andrew York for their committed work over the years. Their contribution to the club has been hugely appreciated, and we look forward to welcoming them to matches in the future.

The club would also like to thank Members for attending and look forward to welcoming everybody back to the Fischer County Ground during the 2019 season.
