Leicestershire County Cricket Club is excited to announce that white-ball captain Colin Ackermann has penned a new deal to keep him at the Fischer County Ground until at least the end of the 2023 season.
Ackermann was rewarded with a new deal following another impressive season in the colours of Leicestershire CCC which saw him break the world record for bowling figures in a T20 fixture.
On the new deal, Ackermann said: “I am very pleased to have extended my contract by another three years.
“I have really enjoyed my time here at the Fischer County Ground over the last three years so long may that continue.”
Ackermann has performed at a high level for the Foxes over the past three seasons which saw him hit the winning six against Lancashire at Aigburth in 2018 in the Vitality Blast, as well as return world record figures of 7-18 against Birmingham Bears at the Fischer County Ground last season - but he focusses more on the team’s performance than his own.
He said: “There have been quite a few [personal highlights] in the T20 side of things, and we have had a few good victories over Notts [Outlaws] in the last few years. We have definitely shown that we can beat the top teams in our North Group, which is fantastic to see.”
Despite the difficulties faced on the field during the 2019 campaign, Ackermann is keeping optimistic that Leicestershire CCC can build on the positive performances from the previous season.
He said: “We are a young squad and it is fantastic to see the local and younger guys to have that opportunity to make a name for themselves.”
Ackermann is the fifth Fox to pen a new deal in Leicestershire following the conclusion of the 2019 season following suit from Dieter Klein, Harry Swindells, Sam Evans and Harry Dearden which highlights the club’s philosophy: “It shows that the Club is putting a lot of faith in the younger group of lads, which is fantastic,” he said.
“It is obviously not all going to come together right now but, in a year, or two’s time with the likes of Harry Dearden and Sam Evans having another year under their belt – it bodes well for the future.”
Ackermann finished the season in fine form for the Foxes finishing with 675 runs at an average of 35.52, and 12 wickets in the Specsavers County Championship, 428 runs at an average of 61.14 and five wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup, and 342 runs at an average of 28.50 and 12 wickets at 6.04 in the Vitality Blast.
