Ackermann signs for Leicestershire

Leicestershire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of batsman Colin Ackermann on a two-year contract.

Ackermann has an impressive first-class career record with 3,917 runs scored at an average of 39.17 including seven centuries. The latest of those hundreds, a score of 136, came for Warriors against Titans last week.

A former South Africa under 19s international, Ackermann has previous experience in the county of Leicestershire as he enjoyed a successful season for Kibworth in 2012. Ackermann also played a Second XI match for Leicestershire that year, top-scoring with 73 in a low-scoring match against Northants.

Ackermann is also a fine performer in white ball cricket with ten half-centuries and more than 1,700 runs made across the two competitions. Ackermann has a List A best score of 92 and a T20 highest tally of 79 not out.

The 25-year-old has a consistent record with the ball as an off-spinner, taking 62 wickets across all three competitions at a similar average in each format. Ackermann has recently been part of the Eastern Province side that won the Africa T20 Cup competition, top-scoring with 46 in the final.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “Colin is a quality top order batsman who can also bowl some useful off-spin, and he will offer us a good option in all three formats of the game. Colin will provide us with further competition for places and we look forward to him joining up with us ahead of the 2017 season.”
