Andrea Agathangelou and Atif Sheikh dominated as Leicestershire Second XI had a comfortable 130-Trophy win on the D-L method against Lancashire at Grace Road.
Agathangelou struck 13 fours in making 99 not out from 117 balls against his former county, sharing stands of 155 and 97* for consecutive wickets with Eben Kurtz and Dan Redfern in the process.
County scored 254-2 in an interrupted innings that was eventually reduced to 40 overs and the visitors were set a testing 282 to win after the calculations had taken place in the scorebox.
Sheikh reduced Lancashire to 25-3 to give them an even bigger mountain to climb and the left arm seamer ended with terrific figures of 4-35 in a total of 151 all out.
Lester drew first blood at Grace Road but sadly it was not our Second XI, it was Toby of Lancashire who trapped Alex Kent leg before with the score on 5.
Opener Kurtz and number three batsman Agathangelou then shared a superb 152 for the second wicket in 28 overs to take the game away from the visitors.
Agathangelou was first to 50 from 67 balls (7x4) and the left-hander posted his half-century from 68 deliveries with six fours.
Kurtz played another mature innings before being stumped off a wide having scored 68 and Redfern then played aggressively alongside Agathangelou.
The number four batsman smashed 55 not out from just 38 balls (8x4, 1x6) either side of a rain delay that arrived when Leicestershire were 218-2 after 36 overs.
Agathangelou was 90 not out at that stage and had four overs to try to move into three figures. He was on 99 with a ball of the innings remaining but sadly the ball thudded into his pad, so the single taken went down as a leg bye.
Leicestershire backed up their performance with the bat by excelling with the ball and in the field. Liam Hurt, Dan Hampton, George Corbett and Jigar Naik all took a wicket alongside Sheikh’s four-for and direct hits from Kent and Redfern accounted for the other wickets.
The two teams now meet in the Championship at Ashby Hastings CC with the match set to start at 11am this morning.
