Alex's Wish and Healing Little Hearts Continue as Charity Partners

It is a delight to confirm that Leicestershire County Cricket Club will once again be supporting both Alex’s Wish and Healing Little Hearts for the upcoming season.

Last year,  the pandemic meant that fundraising capabilities were hindered, and exposure was limited for the Club’s two official Charity Partners, meaning that the funds expected to be made in the 2021 were restricted. In 2022,  Leicestershire CCC hope both local charity partners will benefit further from successful fundraising activities.

Alex’s Wish is a Leicestershire-based charity set-up by Emma and Andy Hallam - parents to Alex - to raise vital funds to aid the discovery of new treatments with the hopes to eradicate Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, an aggressive form of Muscular Dystrophy that affects 1 in every 3,500 boys born.

Every single muscle is destroyed due to a lack of protein. It also affects the heart and lungs due to these being muscles too.

Emma, Founder of Alex’s Wish said: “We are delighted to have been selected as one of Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s Charities of the Year for a further year and we are very much looking forward to working with them over the next 12 months.

"This partnership is a great platform to be able to raise awareness about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the impact it has on children’s lives, whilst also raising vital funds to help bring about effective treatments and ultimately a cure for this cruel and devastating muscle wasting disease.”

Healing Little Hearts is a Leicestershire based registered children’s charity that provides free heart surgery  to babies and children in the developing parts of the world.

Every year more than 1 million children are born with Congenital Heart Disease worldwide. Sadly, only 10% of these children receive the life-saving treatment they desperately need.

Dr Sanjiv Nichani OBE, Founder of Healing Little Hearts commented: "The Healing Little Hearts team is absolutely delighted that Leicestershire County Cricket Club has chosen HLH as one of two Charities they are supporting in the next 12 months.

“To be associated with a club of such repute and pedigree will go a long way towards raising the profile of the lifesaving heart operations performed by HLH volunteers across the world.”

In 2021, the Running Foxes' Foundation undertook a Century a Day, an initiative that encouraged fans, Members, sponsors and partners to walk, run or cycle a century a day - minimum 1 mile a day - as well as the inaugural Tour De Foxes bike ride, both of which proved a success. The forthcoming season will introduce further fundraising activities that will prove beneficial to both charities along with our Foundation.

Commenting on the confirmation of Alex’s Wish and Healing Little Hearts as official Charity partners for 2022, CEO of Leicestershire CCC, Sean Jarvis said: “It’s great that we are supporting these two local charities again.

“ The pandemic meant that  neither Charity got a fair chance to gain exposure and maximise the benefits from fundraising activities, so hopefully within the forthcoming season, we can look to rectify that.

“We look forward to working closely with both charities throughout 2022, and hope that we can make a difference in both of their areas.”
