With the Running Foxes making the trip to Taunton to take on Somerset in round seven of the 2021 Royal London Cup, we took a look at the possibility of a qualification spot from Group B.
We currently sit in eighth place, on five points with our net
run rate being inferior to the rest of the group following recent results. However, a chance of outright qualification - via a second or third placed finish - is still mathematically possible, considering results elsewhere in the group go in our favour.
Tomorrow (Tuesday, August 10):
Foxes beat Somerset
Surrey beat Warwickshire
Northamptonshire Steelbacks versus Notts Outlaws “ a win either way puts one side on 8 points, the other stays on 6 points, or 7 points in the event of a tie or a no result
Thursday, August 14:
Foxes beat Northamptonshire Steelbacks
Glamorgan beat Yorkshire Vikings
Warwickshire beat Somerset
Derbyshire Falcons beat Surrey
These results would see Glamorgan onto 12 points, Foxes on 9 points, Yorkshire Vikings, Somerset, Warwickshire & Surrey all on 8 points, one of Notts Outlaws and Northamptonshire Steelbacks on 8 points with the other on 6 points - or both on 7 points - & Derbyshire Falcons on 5 points.
A tie or no result in either of our remaining fixtures, accompanied by a victory could see us finish on 8 points alongside Yorkshire Vikings, Somerset, Warwickshire & Surrey, but with an inferior net run rate.
Other scenarios can come into effect but we have outlined the least complex above which could see the Running Foxes through to the knockout stages safely, where they will face the second or third placed team from Group A dependent on their final spot in Group B.
Leicestershire continue their Royal London Cup campaign with their first of two away fixtures against Somerset tomorrow, where we will be looking to build on the victory over Surrey at the Uptonsteel County Ground on Saturday, August 7.
