Leicestershire CCC is excited to announce the signing of top-order batsman Sol Budinger on a two-year deal from Nottinghamshire.
The 23-year-old arrives from Trent Bridge immediately, with a three-match loan preceding a permanent move next month.
Budinger, who comes straight into contention for debut against Durham at Uptonsteel County Ground, featured on 26 occasions for Notts since his debut in June last year, with 17 List-A and nine Vitality Blast appearances to his name.
Nine of his List-A matches came in this summer’s Royal London Cup, where the left-hander shone with 358 runs at an average of 44.75, buoyed by a strike rate of 142.06.
Such opportunities eventuated after successful showings across the formats at second team level. In this year’s SET20, Budinger averaged 23.5 striking at a formidable 164.9, while he smashed 114 off just 38 balls in his final appearance of the 2021 iteration.
Known for his attacking propensity, Budinger has also shown his ability when facing the red ball. He registered 645 runs at just under 38 in this summer’s Second Eleven Championship, best displaying his prowess with 151 from 143 deliveries against the Foxes during the second innings at Lady Bay in May.
Discussing his East Midlands switch, Budinger said: “The opportunity came up a few months ago, and it was too good to miss out on.
“Leicestershire is a great club with a great history, so I see it as the perfect place for me to really kick on and win some games alongside an exciting young team.â€
Speaking about joining on loan and his ambitions, he added: “Hopefully I can add some valuable contributions to a few wins and kickstart some momentum for next year.â€
“The team had fantastic T20 and 50-over campaigns, so hopefully we can continue to progress next year, get to a final, and win some silverware.â€
LCCC Director of Cricket, Claude Henderson, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Sol to Leicestershire. He boasts a strong skillset, and we were incredibly impressed by both his hunger to improve and his determination to flourish across all three formats.â€
