Carberry and Evans attend PCA camp

Two Leicestershire CCC batsmen who opened together in the final game of the 2017 season recently attended the ECB rookie camp organised by the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA).

New Leicestershire captain Michael Carberry was in attendance to take part in a question and answer session alongside Ryan Sidebottom to talk about their experiences as professional cricketers.

Sam Evans was also at the camp that was designed to inform the youngsters about what it is like to be a professional cricketer.

There were specific presentations on working with agents, the use of social media, a talk on the Anti-Corruption Code as well as a visit from ECB Chief Executive Tom Harrison.

Evans said: “Both players really stressed how important it is to have another life away from cricket. Obviously I know Carbs [Michael Carberry], we even netted together on the Monday before.

“Carbs has been through a lot during his career so I listen to anything he has to say as I know it will be useful.”

For Carberry it was a great chance for him to pass on some of his knowledge, as the batsman has vast experience through a county career that started in 2001 and also took in the Ashes tour of 2013-14.

He said: “I’ve spoken to the guys about the journey of cricket, the ups and downs they’ll experience and what to expect, and hopefully it’s been useful for them throughout their careers.”
