Celebration of Trophies Anniversary Dinner a Success for the Foxes

The Celebration of Trophies Anniversary Dinner took place at the Uptonsteel County Ground on Thursday, October 28, 2021 as a number of former Foxes and Club legends reminisced on two of the greatest days in the Club’s history.

The Club’s foundation was also honoured with money raised throughout the evening to be dispersed amongst the four important causes.

This year saw the 25th Anniversary of the 1996 County Championship triumph led by Jack Birkenshaw and James Whitaker.

2021 also saw the 10th Anniversary of the 2011 Friends Life T20 victory, the third in the Club’s history, led by Phil Whitticase and Matthew Hoggard, a game also remembered as current Head Coach Paul Nixon’s last game for the Club.

Amongst the attendees of the evening were Vince Wells, Darren Maddy, Claude Henderson, Jeremy Snape, Josh Cobb, Will Jefferson, Ben Smith, Matthew Boyce, Alex Wyatt, Jack Birkenshaw, Craig Mortimer and Darren Stevens.

The night began looking back at the 2004, 2006 and finally the 2011 T20 victories capped off with a Q&A hosted by Roger Dakin, with Claude Henderson, Jeremy Snape and Will Jefferson in which players shared tales of their respective triumphs.

The night then led into the celebration of the 1996 County Championship victory in which Leicestershire earned all 24 available points from the final three fixtures to secure the title with a day and a session left to play at Grace Road, against Middlesex CCC.

Jack Birkenshaw, Vince Wells and Ben Smith joined Roger on stage to discuss stories from that Championship winning season, including everything from Darren Stevens’ lack of punctuality to David Millns’ extra incentive.

CEO at Leicestershire CCC, Sean Jarvis commented: “The Celebration of Trophies Anniversary Dinner was a special evening for the Club to hold.

“As we continue to move into a new chapter of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, it remains paramount to the Club’s values to celebrate our rich history.

“It was a pleasure to see so many legends of the Club in one room again, and we hope to see them all back down at the Uptonsteel County Ground in the future.”

The night also held the Leicestershire staple of a game of ‘Heads and Tails’ to engage the crowd, as well as a silent auction held by See It Now Group, in which sporting, and film memorabilia were on offer.

A portion of the monies earned from the silent auction has been donated to the Club’s foundation and will be dispersed into each of the four arms.
