Chappell and Klein extend contracts

Leicestershire CCC are pleased to announce that seamers Zak Chappell and Dieter Klein have agreed new contracts at the Fischer County Ground.

Right arm paceman Chappell and left arm quick bowler Klein have signed for an additional year, extending their stays at Leicestershire CCC until at least the end of the 2018 season.

The 20-year-old Chappell has made a big impression since progressing from the club’s flourishing Academy. Chappell scored 96 on his first-class debut at Derbyshire in 2015 and has also delivered some good spells of bowling.

Klein made his mark in the Second XI last summer before earning a full contract at the club. The 28-year-old took nine Specsavers County Championship wickets in his two appearances at an impressive average of 23.44, and also bowled well in the Royal London One-Day Cup games against Lancashire and Derbyshire.

Both Chappell and Klein have the ability to trouble batsmen with quick deliveries but they bowl from different trajectories, giving Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn plenty of options.

de Bruyn said: “We are delighted that Zak and Dieter have extended their contracts with the club ahead of the new season.  I look forward to them continuing their development with us over the next couple of years.

“We have healthy competition for places across all departments, including plenty of different seam bowling options. Zak and Dieter both impressed in their appearances in 2016 and offer variety to our attack in both red and white ball cricket.”
