Chappell stars as Harborough beat leaders

Top two Kibworth and Lutterworth meet this weekend with the Leicestershire and Rutland League title race having been blown wide open.

Lutterworth started the day in pole position but lost by seven wickets to Market Harborough while Kibworth landed a five-wicket success at Loughborough Town to move within two points of their rivals.

Leicestershire’s Zak Chappell played a key role for Harborough as he and Northants batsman Kyle Coetzer posted half-centuries to see their side beyond the home team’s 190-8.

Loughborough scored 205-9 and Kibworth chased down the runs as Sunny Patel and Raja Hayat made fifties.

The game between Barrow and Syston saw Dan Redfern come up against Alex Wyatt, and both made useful contributions in an exciting game.

Redfern scored 39 while Wyatt claimed 3-20 as Barrow were 185 all out. Syston were on the brink but last pair of Zahir Taher and Jamel Bathia saw out twelve overs to ensure their side were at 155-9 when the game came to an end. Redfern bowled five overs at a cost of just five runs.

Niall Lafferty and Imran Khan shared eight wickets as Leicester Ivanhoe bowled out Kegworth for 120 and a number of contributions led Ivanhoe to a four-wicket win that all but secured survival. Sam Evans (24) and Eben Kurtz (19), openers with Leicestershire connections, set Ivanhoe on the way.

Sileby Town made the highest score of the day, Dave Torr and Brady Glennon both making centuries in a total of 310-3.

There was a spirited reply from Thorpe Arnold but the visitors were eventually dismissed for 171 despite scores from Luke Clark (42) and Sam Woods (41) as spin duo Jigar Naik (3-12) and Umar Afzal (3-13) excelled.

Rothley were another side to put a good score on the board, their 255-6 ensuring a 129-run win against Hinckley Town/CCA.  Hamzah Khan (78) and Richard Williams (64) led the way with the bat before Adam Hackett and Max Cross each claimed three wickets.
