Leicestershire CCC seamer Charlie Shreck has retired with immediate effect from all forms of cricket due to injury.
The 39-year-old took 145 first-class wickets for the club at an average of 35.08, including a best return of 5-71 in the Specsavers County Championship win at Essex in 2015.
Shreck was the club’s joint leading wicket-taker in first-class cricket during his first season at the club and passed the 50-wicket mark in 2015.
He posted his maiden first-class 50 for the club at Surrey in 2014, made some useful contributions in white ball cricket as well as being the club’s Bowling Development Coach for the 2015 season.
Shreck collected 577 first-class wickets in his career for Nottinghamshire, Kent and Leicestershire and also claimed 103 victims with the white ball.
Shreck said: “Unfortunately all playing careers have to come to an end and my time is now. I look back with fond memories of my time and feel very privileged to have been a part of the cricket community for so long.
"I would like to thank everyone that has helped along the way, the umpires for putting up with me and the supporters that stay with you through thick, thin and rain.”
Leicestershire CCC Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “Charlie has been an outstanding servant for Leicestershire CCC but has understandably decided to look at other options in his career after suffering with injury this season.”
“On behalf of Leicestershire County Cricket Club, I’d like to thank him for his huge contribution to the club both on and off the field and we wish Charlie all the very best for the future.”
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn added: “Charlie has been an incredible role model in the changing room and will be missed. His competitiveness and passion is worth gold in a team environment. I wish him all the best and congratulations on an amazing career.”
