Chris Wright to join Leicestershire CCC

Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that high-quality seam bowler Chris Wright will join the Foxes from Warwickshire CCC at the end of the 2018 campaign.

Wright has signed an initial two-year contract at the Fischer County Ground to take him through until at least the end of the 2020 season.

The seamer has taken an impressive 539 wickets in his professional career, including 384 first-class wickets at an average of 34.05 in 139 appearances.

He said: “I am really excited to be joining the Leicestershire Foxes for the 2019 season and beyond. The club is heading in a good direction. I really hope I can add some experience to what is a good squad with lots of ambition, and helping to win some silverware.

“Everyone I have spoken to about the club has very positive things to say and I can’t wait for this new challenge. I would also like to thank everybody involved at Warwickshire Bears for making my time at the club so special.”

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon added: “It’s a real coup for us to sign Chris, I know that there was plenty of interest in his signature, and we’re absolutely delighted that he has decided to join us.

“Chris has been a consistent, high-class performer in county cricket and has played a key role in Warwickshire’s successes. We know that Chris will slot in seamlessly and add to the quality bowling unit we have here at the Foxes.”

Wright has claimed ten five-wicket hauls in the first-class game including a best of 6 for 22, and is also a handy batsman, contributing 72 as a nightwatchman against Derbyshire CCC earlier this season to go alongside a previous career-best score of 77.

He has performed well in white ball competitions, collecting 100 List A wickets at 35.68 and also snaring 55 T20 victims at 33.44 apiece. Wright’s career has taken in spells at Essex CCC and Middlesex CCC, and the bowler has also had call-ups to England Lions and the England Performance Programme.
