Class of 2022 Academy Scholars

With the 2021 campaign coming to a close and the 2022 campaign fast approaching, the highest level of the LCCC Academy has updated it's members; here are your 2022 Academy Scholars.

Zayn Hussain

Zayn is an 18-year-old seam bowler from London. Zayn came to play for Leicestershire having been scouted by Phillip Defreitas during a period when we had lost a number of our regular players due to COVID-19 isolation. Zayn made an immediate impact with his pace and a particularly devastating in-swinger which quickly made him our most threatening seamer.

He has skiddy pace, an ability to bowl a consistent line and length and can swing the ball both ways. He currently plays for Wycombe Close Cricket Club in the Middlesex league and is taking a year out from his education in order to give his cricket his full attention.

He will be taking a place at Leeds University in 2023 to study Philosophy and Psychology.

Vikai Kelley

Vikai has joined the Running Foxes having previously held a place on Warwickshire’s academy. Vikai is 18, from Wolverhampton and plays for Kidderminster Cricket Club in the Birmingham League. He is a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper who made his professional debut in the T20 Vitality Blast for Birmingham Bears against Northamptonshire Steelbacks in 2020.

He comes to the club with good pedigree and even took part in the ECB Best vs Best competition which involved the top 48 players in the country in the under-18 age bracket.

Vikai has also taken a year out from studying to concentrate on his cricket before he takes a place at Birmingham University in 2023 to study Physical Education and Coaching Science.

Buzz Kemp

Buzz is an 18-year-old tall right arm seamer from Norfolk. He was identified whilst playing for Norfolk Under 18s vs Leicestershire Under 18s in the summer where he bowled some aggressive spells with the new ball.

Buzz swings the ball at good pace and has natural bounce. He is currently studying Human Biology at Loughborough University and so will be able to train and play throughout the 2022 season.

Rishan Herath

Rishan is an Under-17 right handed batter and wicketkeeper from London. He plays his cricket at Finchley Cricket Club and impressed hugely when he played against Leicestershire for London Schools Cricket Association in 2021. He then represented Leicestershire Under-18s at the back end of the season against a League XI and scored a match winning century.

Rishan is still at school and will balance his travel and school commitments at Claremont High School with his place as an Academy Scholar.

Kieran Pell

Kieran is a 17-year old right handed batter and wicketkeeper who plays his cricket for Rothley Park CC.

He has been part of the Leicestershire CCC pathway for two years and has improved dramatically over the last 12 months.

He was the leading run scorer in the 2021 Under-18 competition and played some fantastic innings’. He also attends Trent College where he has often captained the First XI.

Josh Hull

Josh is 6'6" tall 18-year old left-arm pace bowler who swings the ball back into the right handed batter at good pace.

Josh was born and lives in Oundle and plays for Oundle Cricket Club. He attends Stamford school under the watchful eye of Dean Headley and has joined Leicestershire in 2022 having spent much of his county age group cricket playing at Northamptonshire.

Josh was identified two years ago when he attended the Running Foxes Winter Coaching Programme for some extra cricket coaching and we have kept an eye on him since then. His best bowling figures are 4 for 32 and he bats right handed.

Freddie Fallows

Born in Cumbria, Freddie moved to Bromsgrove at a young age where his father is the Head of Cricket, and Freddie currently attends. He is a strong 18-year-old left arm spinner and aggressive batter who plays his club cricket for Bromsgrove CC in the Birmingham league.

He joined Leicestershire from Worcestershire in 2021 and excelled with both bat and ball. He opened the batting in white ball cricket for the Running Foxes Academy side smashing some attacks to all parts, and bowled his left arm spin aggressively.

He picked up the Coaches Player of the Year award for his all-round match winning performances in both white and red ball cricket. He has also signed an Academy scholarship for 2022 and is an exciting cricketer to look out for.
