Come celebrate Move it-Boom!

Leicestershire County Cricket Club is holding the Move it-Boom! Celebration event as part of NatWest Under 19s Final Day at Grace Road on Saturday, September 19.

The challenge, launched by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust at the beginning of July, has encouraged children and families to have fun getting active.

This was done through an interactive game and the use of local parks featured on the health for kids website: https://www.healthforkids.co.uk/move-it-boom/

The Move it-Boom! webpage attracted more than 29,500 views over the course of the summer. Over 1,600 pupils registered online to play the game and a total of 6,156 activities were logged.

As part of Move it-Boom!, Leicestershire NHS Health Visitor Colin Cross walked to as many green spaces as he could on Saturday, June 6 and came to Grace Road as Leicestershire took on New Zealand in a 50-over tourist match.

Colin met Leicestershire and New Zealand star Grant Elliott during the interval and monies were raised for Menphys during the afternoon.

Now children are back at school and the numbers have been counted, we can announce that the winners of the Move it-Boom! competition are Tugby Church of England Primary School.

We are marking the occasion with this special celebration event where a selection of 30 lucky pupils will receive a tour of the ground. There will also be an educational interactive session and a presentation at the end of the day.

Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: “It is fantastic that so many people have signed up for the Move it-Boom! Initiative and made it a success. We’re pleased to have been a part of it and look forward to welcoming everybody on September 19th for what will be a great day at Grace Road.”

There is also one last exciting challenge - pupils and teachers, as well as their families from all local schools, are now invited to take part in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most number of star jumps completed in 60 seconds.

However, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Attempts have to be filmed and meet a strict set of criteria to be accepted. The Guinness World Record officials have a very specific idea of what a star jump is, so we have filmed a demo to help explain https://youtu.be/iB9jxBuG77Y.

The current record is 77 full jumps in 60 seconds. Please  join us as we look to make history!

* Ashby Strikers, Newbold Dragons, Loughborough Cobras and Houghton & Thurnby Hurricanes will compete in the NatWest U19 Club T20 Finals Day, which is also being held on September 19 (9.15am start).

Following on from last year’s successful day on this ground, the teams will be hoping to emulate Bexley Rangers, who won the pilot competition. On that occasion, they were presented with the trophy and medals by former Leicestershire and current England star Stuart Broad.

This is a great opportunity for youngsters to play at Grace Road and the four group winning teams will enjoy an identical format to a usual T20 Finals Day.

The first game sees Ashby Strikers play Newbold Dragons (9.15am start) before Loughborough Cobras take on Houghton & Thurnby Hurricanes at 12.15pm. The final will then start at 3.45pm.

Entry into the ground to watch the Finals Day is FREE, so come down to support the youngsters. There will be a bar, food and music as well as the cricket, so it will be a fun day for all of the family!
