Essex CCC has confirmed that England captain Alastair Cook is available to face Leicestershire in the Specsavers County Championship game this week.
The ECB have made Cook available for the next two fixtures, with Essex’s trip to the Fischer County Ground followed by another key game against Worcestershire.
Cook has scored three hundreds in his five Specsavers County Championship matches in 2016, the left-hander amassing 573 runs at an average of 114.60 so far.
Head Coach Chris Silverwood told www.essexcricket.org.uk: “It is always a bonus to have a man of (Alastair) Cook’s calibre coming back to play for the club.
“He not only brings runs to the side but he offers his experience and knowledge to the younger players and is a valuable asset.
“He loves coming back and playing and we love having him so hopefully he can help us achieve our aims as the season nears its conclusion.”
* Young cricket fans can see Cook in action for free as part of a huge Specsavers County Championship game at the FCG this week. Under 16s can gain admission to the ground free of charge all week while adult tickets are priced just £10 on the gate.
