Cosgrove arrives in Leicester

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Andrew McDonald said that Club Captain Mark Cosgrove could play his first game at Grace Road tomorrow.

Cosgrove arrived at Grace Road this afternoon and might make his debut in the two-day intra-squad game, which is due to get underway at 11am depending on the weather.

McDonald said: “Mark flew in today so we’ll see how he is feeling in the morning but the plan is for him to have a bat tomorrow and to introduce himself to the lads.”

McDonald himself only arrived in the country recently but has been enjoying getting his teeth stuck into the new job. “It’s been great so far,” he said. “I flew in on Sunday evening and went straight to Loughborough on Monday for the practice game against Loughborough University.”

“I’m pretty impressed by the quality of players we’ve got and we’re just putting in the final preparations for the first game against Glamorgan at home, which we can’t wait to come around.

“I really need to get to know the players very quickly and that’s the whole reason behind the intra-squad game, to give everybody access.

“I can have a look at the players and they can get a feel of what I expect of them. They can also show off their skills and vie for selection for that first game, which is coming around very quickly.”
