Leicestershire Foxes batsman Mark Cosgrove was full of praise for opening colleague Mark Pettini after the duo shared 106 inside 10 overs in the emphatic NatWest T20 Blast win against Derbyshire Falcons.
The result, in what was perceived to be a must-win game for the Foxes, means the team can travel with confidence to Durham Jets on Sunday afternoon.
“That was almost a perfect performance,” said Cosgrove. “To keep them down to 160 on that sort of pitch was fantastic, and then Mark Pettini batted beautifully.
“If we can get on a roll you never know where you’ll end up, and we’ll take a lot of confidence into our final few games.”
Elite Performance Director Andrew McDonald added: “We played well at Yorkshire earlier in the tournament and we finally managed to do so again, and it was good for the captain to score an unbeaten 71, but regular wickets was the key.
“It’s a new group that’s come together and it takes time to gel, but if we can keep up our momentum, we can still shape our destiny in the competition. We’re still up against it, but we know what we have to do.”
