Leicestershire County Cricket Club are delighted to announce that Club Captain Mark Cosgrove has extended his contract at the Fischer County Ground by a further season.
It means that the 32-year-old, who has amassed 2,903 first-class runs for the club at an impressive average of 46.88, will remain at Leicestershire CCC until at least the end of the 2019 campaign.
The batsman was Leicestershire’s leading run-scorer in first-class cricket in both 2015 and 2016, and is currently second to Ned Eckersley in the 2017 charts having made 394 runs at an average of 56.28.
Cosgrove recently posted a Leicestershire best 188 at Derbyshire, his tenth century for the club. The innings also took him beyond the 13,000-run mark in a highly impressive first-class career that has seen him register 34 hundreds.
Leicestershire’s club captain won three trophies at the club’s Awards Evening in 2016, including being named the Cricketer of the Year.
As well as performing well in red ball cricket, Cosgrove scored three half-centuries in this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup with a best of 80 coming against Nottinghamshire at Welbeck. His 277 runs made him the second leading run-gatherer for the Foxes in that format.
The left-hander’s 525 List A runs have come at 32.81 while he has scored 593 NatWest T20 Blast runs at an average of 26.95, including four half-centuries.
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “We are absolutely delighted that Mark has committed his future to the club. He has been a high-class performer across all formats in his time with us.
“Mark has been the club’s leading run-scorer in the Specsavers County Championship in the last two seasons and his 188 against Derbyshire two weeks ago once again illustrated the quality player that we have. Mark continues to play a mentoring and key educating role with the younger batsmen at the club."
