Leicestershire face Derbyshire twice in the final five LV=County Championship games of the season, starting with tomorrow’s fixture at Grace Road.
The team has been busy in Royal London One Day Cup action but there is a return to red ball cricket in the morning (11am start).
County have played some good cricket for long periods of Championship games but the team recognises the need to produce their best form over the whole four days as they look to move up the table.
Our seam bowlers have been in terrific form and Charlie Shreck needs just one wicket to hit the 50-mark in the competition.
Ben Raine has 46 wickets and Clint McKay has claimed 41 victims in just nine matches. All three bowlers average under 30, are in the top ten wicket takers in the division, and have an economy rate under 3.30.
On the batting front, Angus Robson, who recently signed a new two-year contract at Grace Road along with McKay, is the club’s leading scorer in first-class cricket with 826 runs at 34.41.
Mark Cosgrove (678) and Ned Eckersley (671) will also be confident of passing the 1,000 run mark over the course of the final five LV=County Championship matches.
Leicestershire have named a 13-man squad for the visit of Derbyshire and there will be two enforced changes from the last fixture at Gloucestershire as Matthew Boyce retired from professional cricket and Greg Smith’s loan spell has ended.
Niall O’Brien and Rob Taylor are back after missing the game at Cheltenham because of international duty, while Andrea Agathangelou, Ollie Freckingham and Rob Sayer are also in the squad.
Squad: Cosgrove (capt), Agathangelou, Ali, Eckersley, Freckingham, Hill, McKay, O’Brien, Raine, Robson, Sayer, Shreck, Taylor.
