County need further 249 to win

Leicestershire require a further 249 runs and Glamorgan need seven wickets on the final day of the nip and tuck LV=CC game at Cardiff.

Unbeaten Glamorgan were reeling on 102-6 on the third morning after a spell of 4-2 in 17 deliveries from Ben Raine but the tail wagged for a second time in the game.

Captain Jacques Rudolph kept cool among the flurry of activity, making 74 from 230 balls in more than five hours at the wicket as his side put 298 on the board.

The impressive Raine finished with another career-best of 5-43 and Charlie Shreck continued his consistent season by picking up 3-73 as the duo moved to 38 LV=CC wickets apiece.

Leicestershire were 75-3 at stumps in pursuit of 324 with opener Matthew Boyce, who top-scored in the first innings, standing firm on 33 not out.

The balance of power has changed several times during the match so everything points to a fascinating last day in the Welsh capital.

Rudolph’s first contribution of the day in his role of anchor was extending his partnership with Colin Ingram (60) to 96 before the latter, attempting to leave a ball from Raine, was caught by wicket-keeper Niall O’Brien.

The Raine/O’Brien combination then accounted for Chris Cooke (8) and the seamer had Craig Meschede (0) lbw after the batsman padded up in the same over.

Mark Wallace (0) followed in identical fashion at the start of Raine’s next offering as Glamorgan lost a fourth middle order wicket for the addition of eight runs.

Leicestershire had their tails up but Rudolph added 102 in consecutive partnerships with Graham Wagg (32) and Andrew Salter.

Wagg scored 18 of the 29 put on before the interval, including two fours and a six, with the opener 35 not out from 145 balls as Glamorgan reached 134 for 6 - a lead of 159.

There was a boundary in each of the first five overs after lunch – two from Rudolph and three for Wagg –with the final one from the all-rounder taking the vital partnership to 50.

Clint McKay (29-12-81-1) and Shreck then reined in the batsmen in the next four overs and the reward was the vital wicket of Wagg, who chopped Shreck on to his wicket having made a useful 32.

Glamorgan were 184 ahead at that stage but Salter shared 48 with Rudolph, who registered his half-century (6x4) from 186 balls in the 63rd over of the innings.

Rudolph added a further 24 runs, including a couple more fours, before dragging a Tom Wells (6-0-39-1) delivery on to his stumps with the score on 207.

The off-spinner then put on 70 in just eight overs with Michael Hogan for the ninth wicket in registering his maiden first-class 50 to ensure the Welsh County set Leicestershire in excess of 300.

Salter’s 54 not out included seven fours and three sixes and Hogan struck eight boundaries in scoring 37 off 27. Shreck finished the innings by having both Hogan and Andy Carter caught by Mark Cosgrove.

County had 30 overs to bat after tea and although they chipped away at the target, the team lost their leading three run-scorers. Angus Robson (8) nicked an outswinger from Meschede to Wallace and shortly afterwards Wagg, in his second over, bowled Ned Eckersley (9) after going around the wicket.

There was further success for the home team when Hogan, in his second spell, trapped Cosgrove (14) leg before wicket. Boyce and nightwatchman Jigar Naik (6*) then battled hard to ensure Leicestershire finished the day without another setback.
