County players shine on week one

Leicestershire County Cricket Club players had a major impact in the opening round of Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket Everards League fixtures at the weekend.

All-rounder Tom Wells shone for Loughborough Town as his 103 not out off just 84 balls guided them to a ten-wicket win against Barkby.

Earlier in the day, former County opener Matthew Boyce posted a half-century for the newcomers while Ollie Freckingham claimed a wicket for Loughborough.

Rob Taylor's 96 was instrumental in helping Market Harborough score 253-5 but Sileby Town landed a superb eight-wicket win thanks to good contributions from Dave Torr, Jake Gillett and Liam Kinch.

Lewis Hill and James Sykes shone in Lutterworth's 63-run success against Syston Town. Hill posted 90 and Sykes scored 29 in a Lutterworth score of 238-6 and the slow left armer then claimed 3-23.

Academy players Sam Evans and Jack Gilford performed extremely well as Leicester Ivanhoe beat Rothley Park by 28 runs.

Evans made 74 and Harry Swindells chipped in with 24 as Ivanhoe scored 216 while Atif Sheikh performed well for Rothley Park, claiming 3-29 from nine overs.

Gilford (4-31) won the game in stunning fashion, taking a hat-trick as Rothley were dismissed for 188.

Barrow Town won by seven wickets at Hinckley Town/CCA, Academy all-rounder Yuvraj Odedra scoring 25 for the visitors after previously taking a wicket.

Reigning champions Kibworth got off to a flying start with a nine-wicket win against Earl Shilton. Academy batsman Leo Cammish made a fine 58 but former Durham & Northamptonshire seamer Luke Evans took 4-19 as Earl Shilton closed on 189-9.

In reply, opener Sunny Patel struck an unbeaten century and Pite van Biljoen (52 not out) was also in fine form for the home side.
