Following the passing of our beloved former scoreboard operator Dave Goodacre last month, LCCC wishes to show its appreciation and admiration by helping to give Dave and his family a fitting tribute through raising funds towards the celebration of his life.
Any donations from the Running Foxes family, which can be made through the link at the bottom of this page, would be gratefully received.
Arrangements for Dave’s funeral service have now been put in place. The service is set for 10:30am on Tuesday 3rd May at Gilroes Crematorium, with the wake to be held afterwards here at Uptonsteel County Ground.
Dave pulled the strings and changed the numbers in the Milligan Road manual scorebox at the Uptonsteel County Ground for almost two decades and was an adored life member at the Club.
The Running Foxes have kept the tradition of having a manual scoreboard at the Uptonsteel County Ground and Dave was delighted to see a revamp of facilities thanks to a generous donation from The Friends of Grace Road in 2020
He decided to retire from scorebox duty at the end of the 2021 season, and sadly took ill after stepping back, passing away in March after a brave battle.
LCCC will also be making a tribute to Dave in the form of a plaque on the manual scorebox in recognition of Dave's service.
Cricket Operations Manager Dan Nice, said: “Dave was a key member of our team and we kept in regular contact when he was unable to come into the ground in 2020. I knew he was so determined to come to work during the 2021 season and it was brilliant to be able to welcome him back.
“I was gutted to hear that Dave was unwell post retirement, and I wish he had been able to enjoy watching the team from the stands in 2022 as he so dearly wanted.
“It is heartwarming to see that the Leicestershire cricketing community is acknowledging Dave’s contribution to our great game and is helping to give him a fitting send off. The Running Foxes family always pulls together in times like this and we really appreciate it.â€
