Davis extends contract in Leicestershire

Will Davis has agreed terms on a contract extension at the Uptonsteel County Ground, taking him into his fourth season with the Running Foxes.

Davis initially signed on the dotted line in Leicestershire from Derbyshire CCC and has since become an integral part of the County bowling attack.

The 25-year-old has claimed 47 wickets in first-class cricket in Leicestershire colours, with a best of eight for 87 coming in the 2021 LV= County Championship away fixture against Middlesex CCC.

An injury at the beginning of the 2021 campaign was untimely but he finished the campaign strongly alongside Chris Wright in opening the County attack.

The Foxes man has appeared in all three formats for Leicestershire, claiming eight wickets in seven List A appearances.

He played a pivotal role in the 2020 Vitality Blast campaign that ended in a tie at Notts Outlaws as the Foxes were agonisingly edged out.

Davis has taken a total of 15 wickets in the shortest format, taking his complete haul for Leicestershire to 62. He also registered personal bests with the bat in 2021.

Upon signing his extension in Leicestershire, Davis said: "I am delighted to extend my contract in Leicestershire.

"Last season was challenging for me after picking up the injury when I did, but I feel I ended the season in a good place and I am excited to push on into 2022.

The squad we have here at the Uptonsteel County Ground is an unbelievable set of players, and we're all fighting to take the Club to the next level."

Head Coach Paul Nixon was pleased to offer Davis an extension with the Running Foxes after three promising seasons. He said: “We are delighted Will [Davis] has committed to the Running Foxes, he has matured as a person and has found consistency in his game in both red and white ball cricket.

“Will has continued his development throughout winter in a positive manner and it is fantastic that he is continuing his journey with us in Leicestershire.”
