Dearden, Hill, Pettini & Wells in the runs

Harry Dearden, Lewis Hill, Mark Pettini and Tom Wells all made half-centuries as the intra-squad match continued at the Fischer County Ground.

After a second day washout, the players were able to take to the field in far more pleasant conditions than Tuesday, with the sun breaking through for most of the day.

There was a change to the format, with a full day’s play today to be followed by a further 40 overs to be bowled on Friday morning.

Team Eckersley resumed their innings and Dearden progressed to a well-constructed half-century in the morning session.

The young left-hander applied himself well and formed a good partnership with Ben Raine, who like Dearden, struck seven boundaries in his innings.

Both batsmen were dismissed by Rob Sayer before lunch as the off-spinner picked up some deserved reward for his efforts.

Raine (39, 72b, 7x4) pulled a short delivery to James Sykes at mid-wicket, while Dearden (52, 153b, 7x4) was bowled by one that drifted back into him.

Ned Eckersley and Callum Parkinson took the score to 171-3 at lunch (59 overs) and helped their team progress to 201-3 from four further overs. Eckersley ended unbeaten on 38 and Parkinson was 14 not out.

Charlie Shreck and James Burke were rotated to also bowl in the second innings for Team Wells, but runs came quickly as Hill, Pettini and Wells recorded good strike rates.

Hill and Paul Horton (27) put on an opening stand of 60 before the latter nicked Raine to Harry Swindells. Aadil Ali (8) was bowled by Shreck before a third wicket partnership of 89 between Hill and Pettini.

The opener looked set for three figures but fell four short, edging Parkinson’s left arm spin through to Swindells (96, 103b, 13x4, 1x6).

Wells struck a quartet of fours and the same amount of maximums as he scored 61 of a 95-run alliance with Pettini, who ended on a fluent 81 not out. Sayer was 16 not out from 9 balls as Team Wells added some quick runs late in proceedings.

Bowling figures (Team Wells): Griffiths 14-1-50-0, Burke 10-3-38-0, Shreck 12-3-31-0, Wells 12-5-29-1, Sayer 12-4-22-2, Sykes 3-0-22-0.

Bowling figures (Team Eckersley): Jones 1.5-0-8-0, Fazakerley 7-1-29-0, Parkinson 11.1-0-69-1, Raine 9-4-15-1, Chappell 9-0-77-1, Shreck 6-0-34-1, Burke 3-0-22-0, Sykes 4-1-27-0, Dearden 3-0-15-0.
