We are sorry to announce the death of Dennis Lambert on 14 November after a short illness. He was 82.
Dennis was for many years the club’s honorary statistician. He was heavily involved in restarting the publication of the annual yearbook in 1988, and wrote the last full history of the club in 1991.
He also compiled the detailed Leicestershire CCC First-Class Records 1894-1996, and two books published by Tempus (100 Leicestershire Greats and Leicestershire CCC), which gave many pictures in the club’s archives an airing. Another, celebrating 125 years of the club’s history, was written but was unpublished.
Until recently he wrote articles for the Yearbook, typically looking back 100 years and was elected an Honorary Life Member in 2006, and though living in Cheshire would make several trips back to Leicestershire each summer to support the county.
In the early 1970s, Dennis was involved in setting up the Association of Cricket Statisticians and served as the first secretary, later becoming chairman.
An accountant by profession, it was whilst living and working in the Coventry area that he played club cricket in Leicestershire and developed his affection for the county.
We would like to express our sympathies to his widow, Rosemary.
