De Montfort University’s cricketers had their first coaching session with Leicestershire County Cricket Club’s players and coaches at Grace Road last Friday.
The club has a unique partnership with De Montfort University which includes hosting the Varsity game at Grace Road. Our professionals are now passing on their expertise to the team in the Mike Turner Indoor Centre to help them prepare for the new season.
The opening session saw a number of individual catching drills such as slip cordon practice and reflexes, followed by a team fielding session and batting, bowling and wicket-keeping in the nets.
Leicestershire CCC batsman Ned Eckersley said: “We had a really good two-hour period of training where the De Montfort University players did catching and fielding followed by batting, bowling and keeping in the nets.
“The players always enjoy helping the team and it is one of the ways in which Leicestershire County Cricket Club and De Montfort University work closely together. Another way is when we use the excellent Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Leisure Centre at the university.
“It is a fantastic partnership and we are looking forward to continuing to work with De Montfort University’s cricket team over the winter.”
