Leicestershire CCC doctor Harjinder Singh picked up a prestigious national award last night.
Dr Singh was honoured at the Talk Home Mobile Asian Cricket Awards, which were held at Lord’s to celebrate the contribution made to the sport by British Asians.
“It is an honour and a privilege to win this award,” said Dr Singh, who is a consultant in sport and exercise medicine at Leicester General Hospital and works extensively with Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Leicester City FC.
“It is very special for me to win it at the home of cricket. This means a lot to me. I would like to thank everyone at the club, all the backroom staff. This wouldn’t be possible without them and their backing and support.”
England and Worcestershire all-rounder Moeen Ali was named Player of the Year for the second time at the Awards, while Lancashire’s Haseeb Hameed won the young player award. Leicestershire CCC batsman Aadil Ali was one of the nominations for that particular honour.
“The Asian Cricket Awards aim to increase the awareness of the positive impact made by British Asians within the cricket industry,” Asian Cricket Awards co-founder Baljit Rihal said.
“Our goal is to engage with individuals and organisations to help improve representation across all levels; including professional players and the hierarchies of English cricket.
“Our awards have become a momentous event in the awareness and development of British Asians in the game. It is a great opportunity to bring together decision makers and people who we expect to make a positive impact in cricket.”
“We are grateful to Talk Home Mobile, our headline sponsor, who have shown great support and belief in championing these awards.
“The England and Wales Cricket Board and The Club Cricket Conference have also been pivotal in helping us put together this event. It is a positive statement of these organisations’ intent and commitment to the British Asian community.”
