Durham T20 Match Preview - 19/06/2022

When we last met:

The two teams faced each other in the opening match of this season's Vitality Blast at the UptonSteel County Ground, with our visitors emerging as 54 run victors.

A team effort saw Durham post 184-8 from their 20 overs, a total which looked 15-20 above par.  Paul Coughlin (42, 30b) and Ashton Turner (32, 18b) gave Durham impetus at the right time, while a quickfire 20 (9b) from former Fox Ned Eckersley also helped their death overs scoring rate.  The match was also significant as it was Rehan Ahmed's professional T20 debut, and our academy graduate excelled, taking 2-22 from his four overs including the wicket of David Bedingham from his very first ball.

The Running Foxes started their batting in disastrous fashion, crumbling to 16-3 from the first 16 balls.  Rishi Patel's 40 (31b) and Ben Mike's 24 (16b) were fighting efforts but delayed the inevitable and we succumbed to 130 all out.  Paul Coughlin (4-15) did the majority of the damage for Durham.

Head to Head:

Rehan Ahmed vs Liam Trevaskis:

Rehan Ahmed will likely never forget his first ever T20 career wicket, against Durham.  He had an excellent match against Sunday's opposition previously, taking the 2-22 as detailed above, but also smashing several sixes in his 18 from 12 balls.  Rehan's leg-spin this season has been superb, now finding himself inside the top 20 bowlers in the PCA MVP rankings, and his ten wickets have cost 27.60 runs per wicket, with an excellent economy rate of just 7.45.  With his ability to hit crucial quick runs with the bat also, Rehan is already a fixture in the Foxes T20 line-up.

Opposition spin all-rounder Trevaskis bowls left-arm orthodox, and has a strong record in recent years although on some good pitches this season has had slightly less of an impact.  In 2022, Trevaskis has taken seven wickets at a cost of 40.71 apiece, with an economy rate around one run per over higher than Rehan.  Trevaskis does also offer a real hitting option with the bat also, though, being used in various roles this year and his 83 runs have come at a strike rate just shy of an impressive 150.

Squad: Ackermann *, Ahmed, Davis, Griffiths, Hill, Lilley, Mike, Mulder, Naveen, Parkinson, Patel, Swindells +, Walker, Welch.
