Leicestershire County Cricket Club's plans for the 2016 season have been further strengthened as key duo Ned Eckersley and Charlie Shreck have agreed new contracts at Grace Road.
The club recently secured the signings of Neil Dexter and Paul Horton, and Eckersley has signed a two-year deal to add further competition for batting positions. Shreck has agreed to have his contract extended by a further season.
Eckersley has scored 4,026 first-class runs in his career at a healthy average of 32.73, including ten centuries for Leicestershire. He has prospered since moving up to bat at number three in red ball cricket and has made a career best 147 in that position twice against Essex and Glamorgan.
The 26-year-old Eckersley has also made more than 1,200 runs in white ball cricket for the Foxes, including a List A best of 108 against Yorkshire and a T20 high of 43 versus Derbyshire.
Shreck’s terrific 2015 season has seen him claim 57 first-class wickets at an average of 29.17 and is just one short of taking 100 first-class career wickets for Leicestershire.
The seamer collected his maiden five-wicket haul for the club during the LV=County Championship win at Essex and that haul took him past 500 career wickets in first-class cricket.
Shreck has also played his part in white ball cricket for the Foxes in the last two seasons, taking ten List A wickets at an impressive average of 22.70 and seven T20 wickets at 27.42.
Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket Chief Executive Wasim Khan MBE said: "We are delighted that Ned and Charlie have committed their futures to Leicestershire County Cricket Club.
"We see both players as a key part of the leadership group at Grace Road with Ned being named vice captain to Mark Cosgrove and Charlie being a role model for our younger bowlers along with Clint McKay.
"Our batting line-up has been strengthened with the recent arrivals of Neil Dexter and Paul Horton, and Ned will also add competition for places. Charlie has taken a lot of wickets and bowled a lot of overs, and he brings a lot of quality, knowledge and experience to our dressing room.”
