Eckersley top-scores at Oxford

Leicestershire captain Ned Eckersley top-scored and all of the batsmen chipped in on another good day of action against Oxford MCCU at The Parks.

Leicestershire named 13 for the match as Ollie Freckingham, who was due to travel, missed out through illness. The team was as follows: Robson, Redfern, Eckersley, Boyce, Pinner, Wells, Hill, Ali, Raine, Naik, Sykes, Wyatt, Shreck.

The game was played as 50 overs of batting per side but not as a one-day match. Oxford MCCU batted first and scored 198-3. Jigar Naik picked up two wickets and Tom Wells also claimed a victim for Leicestershire.

The bowling figures were: Wyatt 8-3-18-0, Shreck 8-1-38-0, Raine 8-0-22-0, Wells 8-4-16-1, Naik 9-1-51-2, Sykes 6-0-36-0, Pinner 3-0-13-0.

Leicestershire openers Angus Robson and Dan Redfern got the innings off to a solid start with a stand of 58. The duo made 30 apiece and when they were dismissed, Oxford-born Eckersley and Matthew Boyce picked up the baton.

Eckersley scored a fluent 64 and Boyce made 36 in an alliance worth 89. Boyce was caught before Eckersley retired, and Wells and Lewis Hill then came together. 

The pair shared an unbroken 76 with Wells ending 43 not out and Hill 34 not out as Leicestershire closed on a healthy 252-3.

The next action of pre-season is a two-day friendly against Derbyshire starting on Thursday at Grace Road (11am start)
