Eckersley: "We have to be ruthless"

REACTION | By Richard Rae

Leicestershire’s Ned Eckersley said the team's batsmen had to think in terms of scoring big hundreds if they were to have any chance of forcing a result at Grace Road.

Eckersley and Angus Robson compiled an unbeaten partnership of 169 as County replied strongly to Glamorgan’s first innings score of 513-9 declared.

Robson, who scored 1,086 LV=CC runs last season, closed unbeaten on 82 and Eckersley not out on 81 as a placid Grace Road pitch showed no signs of deteriorating.

“It’s a good wicket, we saw that yesterday from their guys, and obviously it was our turn today to try to see off the new ball and then try to capitalise towards  the end of the day, which we did,” said Eckersley.

“We’re in a good position now, and we can start again tomorrow and try to build towards their score, but we have to be ruthless and get into the hundreds. Angus and I have a good chance, and we aim to do that.

“It’s been a talking point in the dressing room that there have been a few hundreds in recent seasons, but no real game changers, and that’s what we need to do in this game.”
