England Over 70s have had a terrific start to their tour of Australia, taking a 1-0 lead in the Seevent Ashes today after two warm-up wins.
Leicestershire trio Jeff Baxter, George Fox and Alan Cook are part of the trip and Fox has been in particularly good form.
The test matches are played as 50-over games and Fox scored 83 as part of an opening stand of 197 with John Stuck as England amassed 279-3.
Australia were 172-2 after 35 overs in their reply when poor weather brought about an early end to the innings, so England emerged victorious because of their superior run rate.
England had won their opening match of the tour by 59 runs against Queensland City 70+ last Sunday. The tourists scored 173-4, an innings which featured two retirements, and Queensland City made 114-9 in their 45 overs.
The visitors emerged victorious in the second 45-over game of the tour against Queensland Country 70+ on Tuesday. Fox retired after scoring 51 in 224-5 with Baxter due to bat at number 8. Cook bowled eight overs as Queensland were dismissed for 204 from the final ball of the 45th over.
England now face matches against New South Wales City 70+ (October 25) and New South Wales County 70+ (October 27) ahead of the second test on October 29.
