England v New Zealand at the Uptonsteel County Ground

The Uptonsteel County Ground is set to host international cricket once again, as England Women take on New Zealand Women in the third of five WODI’s, in a clash that could prove pivotal to the series.

Coach Lisa Keightley, and captain Heather Knight head to Leicestershire with their star-studded Three Lions, potentially joined by the likes of Tammy Beaumont, Sophie Ecclestone, Katherine Brunt and Natalie Sciver.

England last faced New Zealand in Leicestershire, in the 50-over format in 2018 “ as part of the ICC Women’s Championship - where the visitors ran out winners by four wickets.

Amy Jones (78, 95b) and Tammy Beaumont (53, 66b) starred at the top of the order and got England off to a flying start recording 104 for their first wicket.

The remaining nine wickets, though, struggled to record fruitful partnerships with a further 115 runs only being added from the Lionesses.

The right-arm spin of Leigh Kasperak led the way for the White Ferns, claiming five wickets for 39 runs from 9.4 overs. Her first five-fer in One-Day International cricket.

England responded with the early wicket of Jess Watkin, pinned infront by Brunt for a four-ball duck, in what was the New Zealander’s last ODI appearance.

Sophie Devine, though, made no mistake of putting her Country in a commanding position after anchoring the innings for the visitors, recording 117no from 116 deliveries.

Amy Sattherwaite was the second highest scorer for New Zealand, recording 25 from 30 deliveries.

Sophie Ecclestone shone with the ball for England, claiming two wickets for 39 runs.

The Three Lions will be looking for revenge come Tuesday, September 21, in a fixture which could get very intriguing following the two prior fixtures at Bristol and Worcester, respectively.
