Evans performs well again

Leicestershire batsman Sam Evans again led the way as Ivanhoe had a comfortable success against Kegworth in the latest round of Everards Leicestershire and Rutland Premier League fixtures.

Opener Evans, who has started the season in great form, posted 90 on Saturday. The Loughborough University student and Matt Twigg (82) shared 150 for the first wicket, and Harry Swindells (39) also chipped in as Ivanhoe amassed 271-5.

James Graham then claimed 5-25 as Kegworth were bowled out for 205 despite half-centuries by overseas batsman Brent Williams and Gareth Isaac.

Barrow Town and Sileby Town were locked in an absolute thriller, the visitors ultimately hanging on to secure a 1-run win to move to the top of the table.

Sileby put 245 on the board as Liam Kinch posted a fine 94 before being one of four victims for Rishi Patel (4-51).

Barrow were 161-3 after good innings by Ramesh Kara (71) and Patel (69) but slipped to 236-9 with an over to go as Chris Trevis snared 5-46, Umar Afzal took 3-45 and Jigar Naik (10-1-26-1) was highly economical.

The last two Barrow batsmen made it tense by gathering seven runs off the first five deliveries but with two required to win off the final ball, a run out instigated by 'keeper Neil Pullen saw Sileby to victory.

There were also good games between Rothley Park and Loughborough Town, and Syston and Lutterworth.

Former Foxes seamer Iain O'Brien clubbed 51 not out off just 25 balls to propel Rothley Park up to 280-7. Scores in the 80s from Anish Patel and James Rishton shared 130 for the third wicket and George Kenny struck a quickfire 43 to see the visitors to a 5-wicket success from the first ball of the last over.

In contrast to most matches, there was a low-scoring game between Syston and Lutterworth, the hosts winning by 37 runs. Syston were bowled out for 144 but Lutterworth could only post 107 in reply.

Barkby United wrapped up a convincing 7-wicket win against Enderby. Cameron Sharp and Aiden Morris each took three wickets before Tom Flowers (58) helped his side towards the finishing line.

The match between Kibworth and Market Harborough was affected by rain initially, being reduced to 48 overs per side, and then saw bad light bring about an early finish.

Kibworth had a number of contributions in a score of 268-7 including 50s from Sunny Patel and Pite van Biljoen, and Harborough were 138-6 after 37 overs when the match was curtailed early.
