Evans stars for Ivanhoe

Leicestershire Academy player Sam Evans made an outstanding century on a rain-hit afternoon in the Everards Premier League at the weekend.

Leicester Ivanhoe’s opener scored 129 in a total of 256-7 and Market Harborough were 23-2 when rain arrived in Leicester Forest East.

Batsmen generally dominated in the first innings of games but torrential storms swept across the region around teatime with every match suffering some disruption.

Lutterworth were the day’s biggest points gatherers with 21, County batsman Lewis Hill making 70 as the home side posted 283-6.

George Terry picked up 5-14 and James Sykes returned good figures of 6-1-6-0 as Barrow were restricted to 107-8. Academy duo Yuvraj Odedra (30) and Jack Nightingale (18*) battled hard to help the visitors secure the draw.

Barkby were the day’s highest scorers with 321-5 at Hinckley Town/CCA as Tom Flowers and Ian Kirk posted centuries and Matthew Boyce chipped in with 46. Hinckley finished on 176-4 in reply.

Charlie Lowen (139) and Shyam Patel (83) shone for Loughborough in a total of 291-5, Earl Shilton reaching 57-0 when the game was abandoned.

Academy graduate George Corbett shone for Syston by scoring 60 in a total of 186. The left arm seamer then took 2-9 as Rothley slipped to 24-3 before the game was abandoned.

Luke Gale fell one short of a hundred as Sileby Town posted 244-7 against Kibworth. The visitors were well-placed on 70-1 in the 15th over before the match ended prematurely.
