Leicestershire CCC are pleased to announce that Academy graduate Will Fazakerley has extended his stay at the Fischer County Ground until at least the end of the 2019 season.
The all-rounder has put in a number of impressive performances for the Second XI in 2017, including posting his maiden century in the Trophy at MCC Cricketers and recording scores of 83 and 50 in the Championship at Durham and against Yorkshire respectively.
Fazakerley’s bowling has also caught the eye, and after claiming a three-wicket haul at Emirates Riverside, the tall seamer doubled that tally to take a new career-best 6-55 against the White Rose at Kibworth.
His reward was a call-up to squads in both the Royal London One-Day Cup and Specsavers County Championship, where he was recently twelfth man for the game against Sussex.
The youngster is part of a Leicestershire squad that has seen lots of players progress through the Academy at the Fischer County Ground, including Zak Chappell, Rob Sayer, Aadil Ali, Lewis Hill, Tom Wells and James Sykes.
Fazakerley said: “It was great to sign my first professional contract, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and it was an easy decision to commit to an extension.
“The guidance and support that I’ve received from the coaches and the welcome from the dressing room has been fantastic, so it is nice that my cricket career will continue here at the Fischer County Ground.”
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “Will has been really impressive and thoroughly deserves his new contract. We look forward to Will continuing his development with us at the Fischer County Ground.
“We are committed to encouraging young players and ensuring that they have the opportunity of playing First XI games. It’s vital that the club finds the right blend of youth and experience and there is an exciting future at the club with all of the good young cricketers we have here."
