Foxes abroad - part three

Recent Leicestershire signing Neil Dexter was in sensational form as MCC beat Nepal in the final match of their two-week tour of the country, a T20 match at Kathmandu National Stadium.

Dexter has been captain of the tour and really led from the front in making a superb 83 not out off just 51 deliveries before claiming a haul of 4-26 as MCC landed a 40-run success.

The team started their tour by winning an exciting opening T20 match against a Combined Full & Nepal U19 XI by five wickets off the penultimate ball. Remarkably the second game, a 40-over contest, was also decided by a five-wicket margin with a ball to go, but it was Pokhara CC who claimed the win on that occasion.

MCC then returned to winning ways with a 99-run victory against a Combined Full & Nepal U19 XI in a 40-over fixture before losing to Nepal B by a five-wicket margin.

A two-day draw against Nepal followed, with Dexter shining with 72 in MCC’s first innings, before the tour ended with the T20 victory against the national side.

The squad also visited areas affected by earthquakes and ran coaching clinics with local youngsters, who don’t have access to elite coaching and whose facilities have been severely damaged.

Umar Akmal played for Pakistan against England in the first T20 international in Dubai. Akmal made 19 off 14 balls including a huge six but England emerged victorious by 14 runs as Liam Plunkett (3-21) and Reece Topley (3-24) excelled with the ball.

All-rounder Tom Wells was in good form as Auckland University made it three wins on the spin in the Jeff Crowe Cup.

After restricting Grafton United to 134, Auckland cruised to a seven-wicket success as Wells smashed 66 not out off just 49 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Auckland University are joint top of the Blue Section with Parnell on nine points.

Wells has also been in decent form with the ball, but his haul of 3/52 was not enough to avoid defeat in the Hedley Howarth two-day competition. East Coast Bays bowled Auckland out for 83 and 113 as they claimed a nine-wicket win.

Auckland University had previously drawn their second match of the competition following an important contribution of 43 from Wells in the second innings against Suburbs New Lynn.

Wayne White is having a terrific spell at Malvern Cricket Club in Melbourne. White recently took hauls of 8-51 and 5-24 and taken 25 wickets at a brilliant average of 10.9 so far. He is also averaging 40 with the bat.

Mark Cosgrove has been part of a South Australia side that has had a mixed start to the Sheffield Shield. They lost to a Mitchell Starc inspired New South Wales by 215 runs, won a thriller against Western Australia by one wicket before losing by an innings and 14 runs to Queensland.

South Australia are also currently extremely well-placed in their fourth game against Tasmania on 441-3 after the first day. Cosgrove has opened in all four matches and made three half-centuries so far, with his score of 63 being a focal point for the WA victory.

Aadil Ali is enjoying his spell at the University of New South Wales. He recently made another good score of 72 for the team.

Following Queens Park’s successful tour of England this summer, which included a high-scoring game against Leicestershire Second XI at Lutterworth, Academy all-rounder George Corbett is flying out to play for the team in Trinidad and Tobago in January.
