Foxes all-rounders shine for their countries

Rob Taylor and Kevin O’Brien were in tremendous form in the semi-finals of the ICC World T20 qualifiers.

Scotland and Ireland had already secured their place in the major world competition in India next year but there was also the chance to win some silverware as the qualifying tournament reaches its latter stages.

In the first semi-final of the day at Malahide on Saturday, Scotland had a comfortable five-wicket victory against Hong Kong.

Taylor took 3-17 from his allocation as Hong Kong were bowled out for 116 and although Scotland lost five wickets, they eased home with 46 balls to spare.

Matt Cross top-scored with 39 and Kyle Coetzer of Northamptonshire chipped in with 33 at the top of the order.

O’Brien top-scored for Ireland in the second semi-final at the same venue with 33 but they went from 91-3 to 128 all out once Gary Wilson had been dismissed.

The all-rounder continued to impress by claiming excellent figures of 3-26 but Netherlands won by five wickets to take their place in the final.

Unfortunately rain wiped out Finals Day on Sunday so Scotland and Netherlands shared the trophy while Ireland finished third and Hong Kong ended in fourth place.
