Foxes announce 2017 tour plans

Leicestershire County Cricket Club have announced their plans and squad for a pre-season tour to South Africa in early 2017.

The club’s players and coaches will be flying out in February and will train and practice for all formats of cricket over a two-week period.

A 13-man playing squad has been named for the trip including new signings Callum Parkinson and Gavin Griffiths. It will also be a first pre-season tour with the Foxes for seamers Richard Jones and Dieter Klein.

All other members of the squad will either stay and play in various parts of the world or continue with the winter training programme at the Fischer County Ground.

The whole squad will then come together at the start of March for a three-week period of pre-season matches in England with those fixtures to be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “The pre-season trip was a welcome addition to the programme last year and is an ideal opportunity for players and coaches to get away together.

“The players will be training and playing in a hot climate in a country that is well into its domestic season at that point. Another key purpose of the trip is for players and coaches to learn more about how each other work in a different environment to where they have been training over the winter.

“The timing is ideal because we can get away and then all get together at the Fischer County Ground to step up match preparations ahead of our opening first-class fixture against Loughborough MCCU in 2017.”
