Foxes enjoy Desert Springs trip

The Leicestershire CCC players and coaches are now back in the UK having completed their five-day pre-season warm weather training camp in Desert Springs, Spain.

A 14-man squad and coaching staff were away for five days and participated in grass net practice, strength and conditioning work, running, speed and agility work at the Academy ground and gym at the Sierras Sports Club.

Leicestershire CCC players benefited from the newly developed cricket ground at Desert Springs where they completed various practice sessions that included bowlers and batsmen working together, throw downs, slip catch training and match simulations utilising the ground wicket.

There was also some time for some leisure activities, including football, a round of golf and a mountain bike trail route around the resort.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “It was a great trip for the lads ahead of the new season, particularly given the weather has been poor here. It was so valuable that the players were able to train outdoors and also get to know one another.

“Desert Springs is an outstanding facility coupled with warm, hospitable staff. They made our trip a great experience for everyone as the service levels were impeccable.”

The players echoed Nixon’s sentiments. Foxes fast bowler Richard Jones said: “A massive thank you to everyone involved in the running of Desert Springs. Everything from the service, to accommodation, to the food, was exceptional and made sure that we had a really productive training camp.”

The group is now back at the Fischer County Ground for further training in preparation for Thursday, April 5, when Nottinghamshire are due to visit for a two-day friendly.

Leicestershire CCC players hope to be able to train outdoors in the very near future but the wet weather has hampered those plans so far this week. That has made the trip to Desert Springs all the more worthwhile as the group were able to spend much-needed time outdoors prior to the season.
