Leicestershire Foxes has been given a tough assignment to open The Cricketer Quarantine Cup – a virtual trip to face Surrey at the Kia Oval.
The opener will be played at 7pm on Wednesday, April 15 with Foxes batsman Hassan Azad representing the team in a 5-over per side fixture played via Big Ant Studios’ video game Cricket 19.
County’s only virtual home game in the group stages will be against Glamorgan on Saturday, April 18 (2pm start), with virtual away fixtures to follow at Sussex (Thursday, April 23 – 7pm start) and Kent (Sunday, April 26 - 5pm start).
Azad said: “There has been lots of preparation put into this unique format of the game, and although we are just over a week out now, I already feel in a good place to represent the Foxes.
“A lot of hours were put into video game practice in my younger days and I am hoping that this will bear fruit when the fixtures start. I was always told to concentrate on my studies but I knew it would come in handy one day.
“It’s a challenging schedule in theory with four games in a condensed period with just the one home game but we are relishing the prospect of not having to travel for any matches.”
All matches will be streamed live and Leicestershire CCC will provide a link for this facility.
