Life at Leicestershire County Cricket Club

Summarise Leicestershire CCC in three words: Family. Potential. Development

Summarise your role in 50 words: My job is to get the proffessional squad physically ready for cricket so that they perform as well as possible and stay fit for as many games as possible. I oversee the development of physical preparation for the youth and academy squads as well.

What are your current top priorities in your role?

Making sure the players are physically capable of playing each match

Supporting them with getting used to match fitness

Making sure they are strong enough to cope with the demands and maintain their strength

Before COVID-19, what does your matchday routine involve? If you ask the players, they might say something different. I make sure everything is prepards for physical warm ups so the players go from getting out of bed to be ready to play cricket. I make sure the players have access to their matchday nutrition and supplements, drinks and shakes etc.

I complete some individual warm ups with players to work on specific areas.

If you ask the players, they will say that I fill up water bottles and lay cones. My degree was cone distribution and waterboy.

What is your favourite memory from on the pitch? I’ve probably got 3. Alex E, Ben and Nat getting contracts as I worked with them in the academy.
What is your favourite memory off the pitch?  I ate Will Garvey’s Lamb Shank when he wasn’t looking and he wasn’t happy.
Where do you see Leicestershire CCC in the next 12 months? I think we’re going to be pushing, developing and learning as a club, so I think everyone needs to be on the ball to be improveing all areas, weather that’s my role with physical development the wider cricket department, all departments need to be pushing and striving to improve.
Who is your Leicestershire Foxes favourite player? Will Davis because he dosen’t listen to anything I say
Who are you most looking forward to watching on the pitch this season? Lewis Hill

A bit more about you

What is your favourite holiday destination? I REALLY enjoyed Madrid when I went there.
Apart from cricket, do you watch any other sports? Everything if it’s classed as a sport and it’s on the TV. I’m a Man Utd fan.
If you could invite any 3 celebrities to dinner who would it be and why?

Paul Scholes  - Man Utd connection

Michael McIntyre - to provide the laughs

My Mum – I think it’d be brilliant to see her face as she has no idea who they are. Plus she’ll like MM

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Pretty sport obsessed so watching sport or probably doing the gym and eating.

The impact of COVID-19

How has the delay to the season impacted your role? I guess all the lads went away and they were in a really great  physical state. We had less of an understanding as to what they were doing. Generally there was a lot of running, but all of the lads have come back in a really good physical state still.
How has the lockdown impacted your role? It's resulted in us having a lot less time to prepare for the new season.
What have you been up to during the lockdown? I built a BBQ. I also bought a Cote d Beouf Steak 36oz and I researched for about 2 hours how to cook it. It was incredible and I now pronounce myself as a Michelin star chef [maybe even 2].
Cricket is back on now, describe how you feel in 3 words: Excited, Challenged and Ecstatic.
