Leicestershire Foxes can draw on a positive experience when they travel to Aigburth for the NatWest T20 Blast opener against Lancashire Lightning tomorrow.
The Foxes were the visitors when the venue last hosted a T20 fixture in 2009 and emerged victorious after a thrilling encounter against a strong Lancashire side that included England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff.
Opening batsman Jim Allenby struck 69 off 45 balls, including five fours and a quartet of maximums, as the Foxes posted 146-5 from their 20 overs.
Lancashire were bowled out for 138 off the penultimate ball of the innings as overseas seamer Iain O’Brien claimed 5-23 for the Foxes. Those figures were the second best return for Leicestershire in the competition at the time.
O’Brien’s victims included Flintoff, top-scorer Steven Croft and current Leicestershire batsman Paul Horton.
