Foxes sign Harinath and Pillans on loan

Leicestershire County Cricket Club have announced the signing of Surrey duo Arun Harinath and Mathew Pillans on initial one-month loan deals.

Left-handed top order batsman Harinath has signed for Leicestershire in the Specsavers County Championship while fast bowler Pillans can play in both red and white ball competitions.

Harinath, 30, came through the age group system at Surrey and was also part of the successful Loughborough MCCU set-up. Harinath has scored 3,729 runs at an average of 32.14 with a career-best score of 154.

Tall seamer Pillans has played for Surrey in all three competitions since joining the club from Dolphins in 2016.

The 25-year-old has taken 114 first-class wickets at an impressive average of 26.64 while his 24 white ball wickets have come at 22.50 apiece. Pillans is also a useful hard-hitting lower order batsman.

Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “We’re pleased to have Arun and Mathew on board and thank Surrey for allowing them both to join us.

“Arun is a well-organised batsman who will add quality as well as competition for places at the top of our order. Mathew is an exciting fast bowler who, following some injuries, will give strength in depth to our seam department as we enter a busy period of the season."
