Foxes Stars Launch Sixes Social Leicester Opening

Five Foxes stars swapped the indoor nets at Uptonsteel County Ground for a session at Leicester’s newest cricket venue, as they helped launch the opening of Sixes Social Cricket on Tuesday evening.

Ed Barnes, Callum Parkinson, Rishi Patel, Scott Steel and Tom Scriven all tested their batting skills against one of six interactive bowling machines as part of the venue’s launch night, which marked the initial step in a new partnership between Sixes and LCCC.

Sixes, which combines a traditional cricket nets session against precision technology with a vibrant social setting, officially opens its doors today (Wednesday, 14) at their Halford Street base located in Leicester's Cultural Quarter.

Whether it’s facing an over from Santa or a world-class bowler, cricket fans of any ability can have a hit alongside friends and try to top the leaderboards, before relaxing with your drink of choice and a full menu of fresh-from-the-oven plates.

Leicester is only the fourth city in the UK to welcome the Sixes brand, following sites in London, Manchester and Birmingham, and has become the largest venue in the country with the installation of six state-of-the-art net lanes.

Amy Reed, Head of Communications at LCCC, said: “We are thrilled to have Sixes open in Leicester to help fly the flag for our brilliant sport.

“We have drawn up some exciting plans for 2023, which will offer our supporters chances to experience the fun, as well as invite a new audience of fans to matchdays at Uptonsteel County Ground.”

Sixes has been set up by business partners, Neer Modha and Ravi Mashru. Talking about their newest venture, the two commented: “We were delighted with the turn out on our launch night, and we hope it showed how entertaining Sixes can be.

“It was fantastic to have the support of the Foxes’ star players and we are looking forward to working together with the club to make cricket accessible in all its forms across the county.”
